Drill has recommenced after a good 19mm of rain. Only another
272 ha remaining, which won't take long.
The first of the maize drilled on the 20th April is now poking
through thanks to 12mm of rain overnight and more forecast later
this week. On the flip side this has put a halt to drilling for a
few days but we were ahead of schedule up to now.
Drilling commenced on Monday 20th April with
Ricardinio being drilled under perfect conditions into
predominantly rolled land, which behind the drill is leaving a
great job. Thanks to ideal conditions within just 6 days we have
now managed to drilled 34% of the area as well as 30 trial
varieties into the one trials field. DAP is being applied at
drilling just below and to the side of the seed, which acts as a
very important starter fertiliser for getting the crop away
quickly. The forecast for this coming week looks unsettled and so
this could slow down our progress but any rain will certainly be
welcomed as seedbeds are drying out now.
